I've been a high school art teacher in Northern California for over 20 years, specializing in sculpture and ceramics. I've learned a heck of a lot about working with students, planning curriculum, managing a classroom, hosting student art shows, and about a million other things since I started. While raising three kids at the same time, making my own work took a back seat for the most part. Not too long ago I realized how much my own artistic skills have grown throughout the years as my abilities as a teacher grew, but I wasn't feeding my own creative needs. So about 3 years ago I decided to push myself to create more of my own personal work and put myself out there in competitions and shows. I am still first and foremost a ceramics teacher, so inevitably I find some of my personal work stems from what we are doing in the classroom at the time or maybe as an idea for something I might eventually turn into a student project. What you find on this site is my personal work over the last few years. To see what I do in the classroom, you can visit my teacher website at www.kgravesart.wordpress.com. Thanks for stopping by!
