About

I have been an art teacher for over 20 years, specializing in ceramics and sculpture. I have been teaching ceramics at Elk Grove High School since 2021, which has been the best experience of my career.

In my time as a teacher, I've learned a lot about working with students, planning curriculum, managing a classroom, hosting student art shows, and about a million other things. While raising three kids at the same time, making my own work took a back seat for a long time. Eventually I realized how much my own artistic skills have grown throughout the years as my abilities as a teacher grew, but I wasn't feeding my own creative needs. 

In 2023 I decided to push myself to create more of my own personal work and to put my work out there applying for art shows and competitions. Since then, I have had works in over a dozen shows throughout Northern California, received 8 different awards, and sold several pieces along the way.  Next on the horizon is my first ever solo show is happening in June of 2026! 

My journey with art making has always been one of experimentation and exploration. I never take my art or myself too seriously - there is always an element of fun and funk in whatever I do. I enjoy playing with new materials, tools and techniques all the time. This constant experimentation helps to keep me interested in what I'm doing and brings something new and fun to my students in the classroom. 

For years I considered myself a hand-builder, but I have embraced wheel-throwing more and more in the past couple of years. My newest works combine a bit of both, and I expect this to be something I continue to explore. 

I have a love for creating creatures in clay, and most of my recent works have been an exploration of fantasy, abstraction, and playfulness. The abstraction of form is a purposeful one, leaving room for the viewer to contemplate the relationship between what is real, what is possible, and what is purely imaginary.
