When I'm teaching my Ceramics 1 students how to throw on the pottery wheels, I make a lot of practice cups, bowls, and vessels. These all started as random demonstration pieces that I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with, so I hung onto them and started playing around. I've heard that the difference between fine art and craft is that if it has buns, it's fine art. So I decided to started giving them some buns, and then some legs, and other silly details to transform them from vessels into some cute little fine art girlies.  Since most of my works start as hand-build sculptures, it was a fun departure to start with wheel-thrown vessels for a change. I'm looking forward to expanding on this idea and playing with it more in the next year.
