Creating these vases was a meditative experience and also one that tested my patience. They started as simple, wheel-thrown bowls, and the top parts were added on with hand-rolled coils. This process took so much longer than I expected! By the time I was finished I wanted to never make these type of pieces again! But they sold out in a flash during Open Studios, so I keep thinking maybe I should try it again and figure out how to make the process more time-efficient! I was playing with the open-work coil form like Take Flight and Polo, but making it into a much smaller and more functional version. I also had several sheets of underglaze transfers from NCECA that I really wanted to try out, and these were a great opportunity to test some out.
