Sherry Baby is a hand-built, hollow sculpture that explores my love for sweet creatures and playing with pattern and textures. Her cherry head has a rich, glossy finish to contrast with her matte body. She is reminiscent of a toddler reaching out to be picked up by a loved adult. The texture of her body is designed to look soft and fluffy, like a stuffed animal. She sits atop a ceramic stool that was created initially to be the base for my Pizza Night sculpture until I changed my plan a bit. I really liked the stool, so I saved it for over a year until I had the right figure to go with it. It is finished with underglazes, followed by several coats of clear gloss on her cherry head and clear matte everywhere else.
