Trelk (Cervus Quercus)

2024

Low-fire earthenware clay finished with underglaze

22" x 6"x 12"

$800

Trelk is the first creature in a series of fantasy woodland friends. I still can't give up the donut form that you see in previous works quite yet because I still enjoy exploring it in different ways. This creature (part elk and part tree) is a mash-up of my love for imaginary creatures and natural surface textures. He was formed hollow from a wheel-thrown body and hand-built head and limbs. The take on a Hawaiian shirt features oak leaves and was created using the sgraffito technique. An inlay of a dark brown underglaze wash was used after firing to highlight the textures. It is finished with underglazes and transparent matte glaze.
